Who we are, what we do and why

The School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy is part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. Our faculty members, staff and students work every day to discover innovative solutions that address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

With programs in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering and aerospace engineering, the school takes an interdisciplinary approach to educating engineers capable of making a meaningful difference in our ever-evolving society.

A word from Director Tony Waas

“Hello and welcome to the School of Engineering for Matter, Transport, and Energy. Since joining the school, my goal has been to set the foundation for our students, staff and faculty to do their best work.

We already have the only ABET-accredited online undergraduate bachelor’s degree program in mechanical engineering, and I intend to make our high-quality education available to even more students from around the world through other online programs.

The biggest success for me would be that the students who came here during my time left as well-trained engineers who are confident to become future leaders and do things well.”
